With comfortable seating for five people, a cabin modeled on the larger Honda Pilot, and a strong V-6 engine on all trims, the Passport is a practical but comfortable vehicle to ride in. Engine and Performance

All trims in the Passport lineup get a 3.5-liter V-6 that’s capable of generating 280 horsepower. Coupled with a nine-speed automatic transmission, this powertrain will have you rapidly accelerating on the highway. In testing, the Passport accelerated from zero to 60 mph in under seven seconds, making it one of the fastest vehicles in the class, according to Edmunds. The Passport comes standard with front-wheel drive, but you can upgrade to all-wheel drive for an additional $2,000. This is probably worth doing if you plan to go off-road, since models with all-wheel drive have 8.1 inches of ground clearance compared to the 7.5 inches with the standard setup. When it comes to fuel economy, the Passport performs quite well considering its powerful engine. It can achieve 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, although these figures drop slightly to 19 mpg and 24 mpg respectively, if you opt for all-wheel drive.

Off-Roading and Towing Capabilities

Combined with the additional ground clearance offered by models with all-wheel drive, the Passport boasts snow, sand, and mud settings to help you cope with trails and rough terrain. These settings are designed to improve the vehicle’s traction to ensure a stable and safe ride. The Passport’s suspension can absorb bumps created by rocks and other rough surfaces. The Passport can tow up to 5,000 pounds. This should be more than enough to let you transport a trailer or boat for work or a vacation.

Seating and Cargo Storage

The passport’s five passengers have plenty of room in both rows of seating to relax in. The front seats are broad with good support, while you’ll find enough legroom in the second row to comfortably accommodate adult passengers. Front-seat passengers benefit from an adjustable armrest. In the higher trims, you can add a 10-way adjustable driver’s seat and four-way adjustable passenger’s seat for extra comfort. If you need to install seats for the kids, you’ll have three complete sets of LATCH connectors in the rear row. The cabin is covered in soft materials, including a padded door panel that can come in handy of you’re going off-road. Behind the second row, you’ll find just over 41 cubic feet of storage, which you can increase to 50 cubic feet by adjusting the second-row seats. If you need a lot more storage, you can get up to 100 cubic feet with the second row folded down.  The second row has a useful 60/40 split bench, meaning that you can create more storage space without giving up the rear row of seating entirely. Additionally, there’s a bonus 2.5 cubic feet of storage in a compartment under the floor. You’ll also find useful storage compartments in various places throughout the cabin, including a large cubby in the central console.

Infotainment and Technology

The Passport’s base infotainment system includes an 8-inch screen, a USB port, seven-speaker stereo, and Bluetooth connectivity. You’ll also have no problem linking your phone to the infotainment system thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While your passengers relax and enjoy these features, you can keep the cabin at the perfect temperature with the Passport’s tri-zone automatic climate control. You can upgrade your infotainment system to gain access to useful features, including more USB ports, a wireless hotspot, and a 115-volt power outlet. Other useful technology features include proximity keyless entry, which comes in handy if you have your hands full with errands, and push-button start.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2021 Honda Passport was selected by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as one of its Top Safety Picks. That’s in part due to its strong selection of standard safety features, which include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. When you’re cruising on the highway, take advantage of the Passport’s lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning systems. All of these safety features are part of the Honda Sensing suite, which comes standard with the Passport’s base trim. If you want to add additional safety protections, you can include rear and front parking sensors to help you maneuver your Passport into tight spots.

Trims

The Passport is sold in four trims: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The base Sport trim is equipped with cloth upholstery, and the standard tech and safety features. You can add optional extras like underbody spoilers and roof rails as part of the Adventure or Urban packages. Opting for the EX-L trim allows you to add a little luxury to the cabin, with leather upholstery and heated front seats. You’ll also get a power liftgate, a moonroof, satellite radio, and two additional USB ports. Step up to the Touring trim, and you’ll have heated rear seats and a wireless hotspot. To make your life easier behind the wheel, the Touring also comes with a satellite-linked navigation system to keep you on the right track. The top Elite trim includes a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats. The Elite may also be a good choice for you if you want all-wheel drive, which comes as standard. It’s available with the other trims, but only with the additional $2,000 charge.
